Call for proposals 2025 – Now Closed
The School of Journalism & Media announces the fourth annual competition of “Cheers, For Now” awards to fund graduate student research. In memory of Dr. Dominic Lasorsa, this endowment is now accepting proposals to support graduate student research projects that make contributions to knowledge, theory, and practice of journalism and/or media. The purpose of the endowment is to fund students’ early-career research prior to the dissertation.
- Recipients must be a master’s Research and Theory or first- through third-year doctoral student in the UT School of Journalism and Media.
- Recipients must have a minimum 3.5 GPA.
- Recipients must apply for the award by submitting a written narrative of 500 words, which includes the purpose and importance of the study, brief description of the method, and a line-item budget. This narrative will be given strong consideration by a selection committee.
- The Donor requests that recipients include the following recognition of support from the endowment in any papers produced: “Funded by Cheers, For Now in honor of Dr. Dominic Lasorsa.”
Important Dates for 2025 cycle
- 2025 Cycle began with the fourth annual Cheers, For Now Call for Proposals, which were due March 20, 2025
- Scholars were notified of decisions on April 14, 2025
- Awards ceremony took place on April 18, 2025
- Funds will be available from May 1, 2025 to April 30, 2026
- Final reports are due May 1, 2026
